May is Stroke Awareness Month

As an American Heart Association-Stroke Ambassador, I want to share some vital information with you;

Did you know that stroke is the No. 3 killer of Minnesotans and the No. 1 cause of serious long-term disabilities?  You may have known those scary statistics, but most Minnesotans do not.  Furthermore, 2 in 5 adults cannot identify any symptoms of a stroke.

Thanks to Governor Dayton and Secretary of State Ritchie, more Minnesotans will be more aware of the risks and symptoms for stroke.

The warnings signs of a stroke can include:

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

Earth Day 2011

We celebrated this day by cleaning up litter in our neighborhood, attending the amazing Disney movie, "African Cats", and talking about ways we can make changes in our household to make a more positive impact on our environment.  The kids taught me as much, if not more about being "environmentally-friendly", then I thought I could teach them!

Happy Earth Day to you & yours!
