My Day At The Capitol - As An American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Ambassador

My relentless passion surrounding cancer stems from too many family diagnosis's and deaths, as well as fears for the future health of my children, due to family history.
When I began this work 17 years ago, I felt helpless to this disease and what I could possibly do to be of use to my dad and others battling to live.  I quickly learned that there were many areas in which I could be of use; on a scale greater than I ever imagined!
The American Cancer Society has given me hundreds of opportunities over the years to continue my work to eliminate cancer.  Many of which are in the form of the extremely important - ADVOCACY efforts of American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).
Through public policy agendas, we as citizens have a unique and powerful opportunity to connect with our elected officials at every level of government (local city councils and county commissions to every state legislature, the U.S. Congress and the federal government) to inform and educate them on how legislation can positively or negatively impact us - their constituents.

As a fiercely proud ACS CAN Ambassador, I am anxiously looking forward to one of my most favorite days of the year - ACS CAN 'Day At The Capitol', in St. Paul.  Tomorrow, I will join hundreds of ACS CAN members as we spend the morning in volunteer training, followed by a midday rally, then my most favorite part - meetings with lawmakers!
This year I have been asked to be an ACS CAN Coach for volunteers to help them navigate their lawmaker visits.

Our focus tomorrow is: Palliative Care, Links Of Care/Colorectal Screenings and Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

I'll share what I know will be a terrific and successful day, tomorrow!
